Welcome to the TRANSIMS Open Source Community! This is the place to start if you are new to the community or have never used TRANSIMS before.
Using TRANSIMSIf you are a beginner, TRANSIMS can be quite overwhelming. This is a simple guide to help you through the process of downloading, installing and running the latest version of TRANSIMS. This section also provides information on where you can get guidance on applying the software and a description of the methods used in TRANSIMS for modeling travel behaviors and regional transport systems.
- Read instructions on where to download the latest release version of TRANSIMS.
- Check out here for instructions on how to install TRANSIMS on your computer or network.
- Read how to download and run a sample test case.
- Review a series of chapters from a textbook, "TRANSIMS Fundamentals", developed by Virginia Tech for information on the modeling approach. Each chapter deals with the following topics:
- Review FAQs and how-to documents for guidance on applying the various software component modules. These documents will help you get started on building your first TRANSIMS project.
Getting Involved with the Community

Participating in the open source community will help you seek assistance from your peers on TRANSIMS application and development. You will have access to peer-reviewed methods and source code. Finally, your involvement will lead to higher community visibility and professional recognition. Below are specific ways you can get involved with the community:
- If you haven't registered yet, please do so for better access to resources available through the web site. Click here to register.
- Visit the forums to share your ideas with the community and get assistance on using the software. Please first check out the Announcements forum for guidelines on selecting the most appropriate forum. You have to be a registered user to post on the forums.
- Become an active member of the community by joining any one of the community work groups or clusters as a friend. Check here for instructions on how to become a friend.
